The lambda sensor measures the residual oxygen content in the exhaust gas. The display instrument thus provides information about the ratio of air to fuel supplied to the combustion in the cylinder.
This stoichiometric ratio is 14.7 : 1 (air to fuel) in the theoretical ideal case.
In practice, the following values have proved to be optimal:
Roller air-cooled: 12.5-13
Roller water-cooled: 13-13.5
The lower the value, the richer the mixture. In the acceleration phase and under full load, the values usually also tend towards a richer mixture.
A hole is drilled in the exhaust manifold and a threaded sleeve supplied is welded on. The probe is screwed into this sleeve.
